Summary/Objective

The Key Account Representative will be responsible for generating and maintaining profitable sales in the Underground electrical market. They will spearhead the division and be responsible for its growth as a sales division as well as a prominent product line for Granite City. The representative will be expected to deliver incredible customer service to our customers and be a knowledgeable resource for others throughout the company. The representative will report directly to the VP of Commercial Sales.

Essential Functions

  • Grow sales and gross margin within your assigned territory and account base.
  • Attend sales calls alongside Outside Salespeople throughout New England.
  • Identify customer needs and utilize the appropriate company resources to meet them.
  • Build relationships with electrical contractors and utility companies to establish long term sales growth.
  • Follow-up on existing orders, process all customer inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Promote new Underground products to branch sales teams across Granite City.
  • Develop relationships with vendors like Oldcastle, Hubbell Lenoir and Prysmian Group to become an expert on Underground products.
  • Maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction through effective communication.
  • Work closely with Marketing team to create and implement campaigns to spread the word about our underground capabilities.
  • Maximize sales & profitability through knowledge of marketplace and presenting a competitive advantage.

Competencies

  • Ability to build, enhance and maintain effective business relationships with both customer base and internal GCE staff.
  • Strong verbal, written & presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to interact successfully with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must possess high degree of organization skills.
  • Works with a sense of urgency.
  • Prior experience in Electrical distribution is ideal but not required.
  • Knowledge of Utility products and Underground initiatives a plus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, distribution office setting with consistent travel to customers and to job sites required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is partly a stationary role but involves climbing stairs in many of our branch locations; This would require the ability to lift boxes and materials, open filing cabinets. The employee may be required to sit for long periods of time but will also be expected to do on-site/field work such as tradeshows, meetings and installations. You will have to be able to lift 50 pounds of equipment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline
  • 1+ years in the electrical distribution industry
  • 1-5 years sales experience
  • All education and experience requirements can be waved based on sales prowess or industry knowledge.
